Ways to Wrap Gifts Sustainably
By: Adrielle Escaño
Did you know that the United States produces as much as 25% more waste during the holiday season? That adds up to 25 million tons of extra waste! This holiday season we should be more conscious of what we are throwing away. Here are a few ways to wrap your gifts sustainably:
1. Reuse old wrapping paper As fun as tearing up wrapping paper is, you are wasting a lot of a paper that you could reuse to wrap other gifts. Unwrap your gifts wisely this year to save you some money next year on wrapping paper. 2. Reuse gift bags
Why throw away a perfectly good bag? When you could reuse it! This one is simple: all you need to do is to throw your gift in the bag and use the handles to tie a little bow. Super easy and low waste… only if you’re reusing a bad! 3. Paper bags from stores/takeout food This one is just like the last one, super simple! If you are using a paper bag, you could also cut up the bag and use it as wrapping paper. It looks super cute because some stores have a signature design that works as wrapping paper. Extra tip: cut designs out of old cards (from birthdays or holidays) and use that as a gift tag! |
4. Brown paper from delivers
As cute as foil and glitter wrapper paper is, it sadly cannot be recycled. However, this season opt for brown paper because you can easily find inside packages you receive (and it's free). It is recyclable and gives your gift a minimalistic look! 5. Empty cookie tins There are just some things that can’t be wrapped because of its weird and hard to wrap shape. I have a solution for you: put it inside a clean and empty cookie tin! Since most cookie tins are metal, they won’t damage the gift inside. Plus, you get to eat all the yummy cookies inside of it before giving the container away. |
