WONDERLAND RENEWED
By Emily Jane Ziegler
On November 29th, the Olympian High School drama department premiered their play, ALICE IN WODERLAND.
The classical, whimsical tale was brought to life by the drama director, Ms. Schaeffer and one of the two casts of Olympian drama students.
The play followed the story of Alice, a sincere and naive girl played by Yelka Gonzalez, who falls down the White Rabbit’s hole and finds herself in Wonderland. As she attempts to find her way home in time to attend her birthday party and see her kitten, she meets many characters along the way.
Personally, I came to the play to cheer on my friend as she performed, but by the end of the night, I was enjoyed the play so much that I couldn’t even choose a favorite character. Each actress and actor obviously prepared and developed their characters and they brought their best performances on opening night.

One of my favorite aspects of the night were how the cast interacted with the audience. I laughed as the Duchess, played by Nathan Moore, sauntered across the stage, singing and dancing while the audience clapped along. Some actors even walked up to the audience and interacted with us.
From those couple of close interactions to watching the cast on the stage, I spent the entire night admiring the costumes and makeup of every character. One favorite costume was the Caterpillar, played by Annie Espinoza. She wore shimmering makeup and a beautiful wig as she lounged atop a large mushroom blowing bubbles and making the audience laugh. Although the play follows the well-known tale of Alice in Wonderland, I was kept on my toes, waiting for the next fresh and entertaining moment. I hope you had the opportunity to see this amazing show and if you couldn’t… Prepare for their next production, Almost Maine. It’s going to be a good one! To the OHS drama department, thank you for the wonderful night. Things To Do To Get Into The Holiday SpiritBy Ximena Rivera

My favorite part is the energy, everyone has good vibes & good spirits. Usually my family and I go to Arizona to celebrate Christmas with our family who lives over there but this year we are staying home. It's probably my favorite time of the year because everyone spreads good vibes and the Christmas spirit is strong.”
- Kyle Abeysinghe “My favorite part about the holidays is getting to spend time with my family and friends. I love being able to do winter activities such as looking at Christmas lights, ice skating, and drinking hot chocolate. Every year during the holidays my family and I usually watch Christmas movies together while baking cookies.”
- Nicole Reyes I celebrate Christmas! I love bringing my family together, getting presents & freedom. Sometimes I travel for Christmas but this year I most likely will spend it here in San Diego.
- Matthew Diaz “My favorite part of the holidays are all the Christmas movies on tv and drinking hot chocolate or coffee and getting into the Christmas spirit by decorating my house and tree. I love the holidays because it is a happy and cheerful time of the year! The holidays always puts a smile on my face! Something special my family does for the holidays is that we make homemade cannolis from the batter to the shell. Gathering together to make them is the best part because we all laugh and have a good time. The holidays are the best time of the year as we spend time with our loved ones!” - Cisco Gonzalez
During this time of year I celebrate Christmas. My favorite part about the holidays is being able to spend time with my family and friends. I love how the holidays is a time of year where it unites everyone and it puts everyone into a good mood. My family has a party on Christmas Eve which is always something to look forward to.
- Bradley Mo'okini “I celebrate Christmas. My favorite part about the holidays is that it’s a time I get to spend with just family and friends. Although we get to spend time with them throughout our days, I just think it’s nice to have everyone together and celebrate just us, and spend quality time with each other. For me at this time of year I get to see my grandparents and my aunts and uncles, (we all get together during Christmas time). It’s this time during year where our families grow stronger and closer. I love Christmas.
