STRESS RELIEFS
While spring break is getting closer, more work is being assigned. Each student at Olympian is working their hardest to get those good grades and to hopefully end up with a better progress report than the last. Of course, while striving to do better on homework or tests is always recommended, it is important to take small breaks. Each student should try some stress reliefs during their break in order to relax. Some of these reliefs can include taking a walk, resting/napping, meditating, listening to calming music, or even seeing some sites. There are many ways to enjoy spring break while also focusing on one’s well-being.
A strong recommendation people have for stress relief is to be active. Simply taking a walk is perfect, but if someone really enjoys sports or more extreme exercises those work too. Any form of workout can take a person’s mind off things. It's a good distraction and also a good way to stay active and healthy. After a good workout and a shower, a person can take a short nap. Napping/resting in general is good for the heart, but it's best to sleep at least 30 minutes in order to not mess up one’s sleep schedule. Overall, napping is very pleasant and it too helps keep a person’s mind away from the stress of school.
Some other ways a person can relax is to meditate. Meditation has been proven to help decrease one’s stress levels while also keeping a balance with the emotional well-being and health of a person. It can be done anywhere at any time, so long as there is peace and quiet in the surrounding area. To have a quiet background helps make meditation more effective.
Furthermore, meditation works hand-in-hand with music. Generally, any type of music can help distract a person from the source that is causing stress, but calm and relaxing music is preferred to decrease the levels of stress hormones. Listening to music also slows the heart rate and allows the mind to drift away from reality. Overall, music provides people with feel-good chemicals to the brain and is widely used from all over the world as an escape from stress.
Nevertheless, there are a lot more ways to relax over the break than just meditation and exercise. Each person is different so some ways work better than others. It is always better to find what works for you sooner than later since stress levels can increase. Despite that little message, enjoy the break! Spring break is the time to relax and socialize without having to worry about the chaos of school.
