Breaking Down the Barriers
Peer mediation is problem solving by youth with youth. It is a process by which two or more students involved in a dispute meet in a private, safe and confidential setting to work out problems with the assistance of a trained student mediator. The Peer Mediation Program aims to reduce incidences of bullying by providing a school environment that is positive, caring, safe and friendly. Mediation opens up communication channels allowing the disagreeing students to discuss their problems and come to a resolution with the guidance of the mediators. This year only a few students were chosen for Breaking Down the Barriers, an event in which students gather together along with a peer mediators to talk about family, friend and school. Before starting the emotional conversations, Peer Mediators encourage students to participate in a few games that will allow them to feel free to express themselves without being judged. A wonderful activity that brings together all students and motivates them to talk to others and make friends.

ASAP Student Leadership - Arc
This year Olympian high school After School Activities Program had the opportunity to attend to student leadership meetings offered by Arc, arc has provided after-school programming for our students over the past four years. During that time we have found the staff to be responsive and caring toward our students and families. The activities and supervision offered have met all of our needs and been beyond our expectations. The after-school program is structured, organized and designed to allow our students time for homework and a variety of exploration through “club” experiences. Thanks to the support offered by arc, students are now able to visit colleges and participate at skill building games and learning about what a good leader is. “After attending all the events I was able to understand and learn from other people and at the same time have fun with students from other schools.” Michelle Garcia
