The Name OlympianBy: Kal-El Avila
One of its newer schools being our campus, Olympian High School. But how did this name come to be? Despite popular belief, the school’s name was not derived from Greek mythology. Specifically the home of the gods, Mount Olympus. In actuality, the story of its name is entirely different.
The original name planned for the school was “Olympic high school”, this name was inspired by the Olympic Training Center some miles away from the school's 30 million dollar construction site. However the name was rejected by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), and negotiation between the district (SUHSD) and the committee (USOC) soon began. After negotiations, the name “Olympic Vista High School'' was eventually allowed for use. This name would evolve into the name of our school, “Olympian High School ''. The name was finally approved and the school would open in August of 2006, making Olympian one of SUHSD newest schools to date. |
