AP EXAMS
By Amelia Kirkpatrick
As of now, students are cramming their studying. AP exams are coming up, causing a lot of stress. Depending on the student, they can be taking 1 to 5 exams. It sounds absurd, but it's possible. Each student taking an AP exam will miss out on some of their classes since the exam is held early in the morning until noon. Some of the different AP exams might take longer than others, but on average they are about 3 hours long. It is important that each student knows what day their exam is and what to not bring since any item that is not prohibited will be confiscated or worse that student won’t be allowed to take the test. Furthermore, each student should make sure they get an efficient amount of sleep the night before their exam. A good night’s rest requires 8-9 hours of sleep including a healthy dinner beforehand. Students during the morning of the exam should have a healthy and plentiful breakfast since they won’t be allowed food or water until the end of the test. Fortunately, OHS provides students with breakfast before the exam in case some weren’t able to eat at home.
Moreover, the AP exams are very important and helpful for college. When taking the exam, a student is trying to earn college credits. In order to get the credits, one must pass their exam with a 3, 4, or 5. A 1 or 2 (sometimes) does not count as college credit. Receiving a 1 or 2 doesn’t necessarily mean failure since the AP exam isn’t exactly a grade. It just means that there wasn’t a full understanding of the subject. Keep in mind, AP represents a college level class. Therefore, the subject and material are similar to what a college student would have. That being said, if one does not pass their exam they will still be able to go to college. All in all, it is important that students try their best to pass the exams. It is quite beneficial to receive college credit before entering college since it will allow students to be more prepared and ahead for their futures. Passing an exam will also allow students to improve their GPA, save money on college, and guarantee success throughout adult studies. Remember, though, that even if you don’t pass or take the exam, it doesn’t make you any less of a person. Everyone learns differently, so don’t hold it against you. The AP exams are meant to be challenging. They are meant to be hard to pass. Sometimes it is best to not take them if you know they will cause more stress and difficulties rather than improvement or success. |
