The Olympian Eagles opened up their football season this year at home against Mt. Carmel (a team they beat last year on opening day). The game began on an offside call on Olympian on opening kickoff. On their first drive the Sun Devils scored making it 7-0. After one punt from the Olympian offense, their defense steps up and recovers a fumble in Sun Devil territory. After a few moments in the second quarter the Eagles score tying it at 7 all. However, a quick reply by the Sun Devils followed an immediate score by the Eagles putting the Eagles down by one 13-14. With the extra point on the way, a penalty pushes the Eagles back for the kick and it ends up being missed. A defensive second half leads to no points by either team in quarters three and four. Even with key defensive stops by the Eagles, not enough was done on offense to give the Eagles the victory, leading to their 13-14 loss.

Returning from a Boys Mesa League Championship victory, the Olympian High School Cross Country team endeavors to obtain both the title boys and girls Mesa League champs this 2015 season. In an effort to obtain this goal, Cross Country held its first ever tryouts. Despite the looming possibility of individuals being cut, the coaches made the executive decision to make everyone who tried out a team member. However, certain individuals were placed in a new group known as Developmental Group, which works on the basics of running, and the ultimate goal of getting promoted during the season to Competition Group. The Developmental Group is headed by the new Coach Steven. On September 11th, the Eagles began the season at the Mustang Invitational; in which the JV boys took third place. After interviewing head coaches: Matias, Ashley, and Steven, each had similar responses in how excited they are about the season. Regarding their first race at the Mustang Invitational Coach Matias stated "I was pleased with what I saw, but I know we will improve as the season goes on" Coach Ashley referring to the girls said "they are a much stronger team this year", as clearly seen by the Lady Eagles first ever victory over Otay Ranch’s Girls Cross Country team. Both coaches have high hopes this year especially for their top runners who are also captains, Diego Arriola (11th) and Ali Martinez (10th). The following captains include Alan Gonzalez-Ramirez (12th), Tanner Claudio (11th), Oscar Montero- Vega (12th), Sarah Schumacher (11th) Djoana Nicolo (12th) and Zuri Smith (11th). Finally, Coach Steven is glad to be part of the team and says "I've always wanted to give back to the running community and help bettering athletes" The Eagles are looking forward to another stellar season. Cross Country’s upcoming dual meets at Olympian will be held October 30th against Bonita High School and November 6th against Eastlake High School. Come out and support!
