OHS Problems

Founded on August 7, 2006, Olympian High School is rated one of the best schools in the Sweetwater Union district, with over 2,000 students. However, as a student, I’ll admit that our school has a lot of problems that we need to work on:
- Drug Usage
- Let’s face it we know somebody who smokes/vapes in school or outside of school daily. Vaping is the best-known product for teenagers. In the online article Truth Initiative, a nonprofit tobacco control organization, published on June 22, 2022, “More than a quarter (27.6%) of high school e-cigarette users and 8.3% of current middle school e-cigarette users reported vaping daily” (Truth Initiative). This year the percentage of students vaping is increasing rapidly, This would lead them to have a nicotine addiction.
- Mental Health
- In my personal opinion, I believe therapy should be free for everybody because our mental health is crucial for our well-being, it affects how we think, our mood & behavior. However, mental health providers cost from $65-$250 for most causes depending on the state. But in reality, some families can't afford therapy for their children. According to the CDC “More than 2.7 million students are experiencing severe major depression, and half of the students are not receiving mental health treatments” (Mental Health America).
